Getting to Rende

The University of Calabria is located in Rende (Cosenza), Italy. It is easily accessible by air, train, and car thanks to its strategic location near the A2 Motorway and Lamezia Terme International Airport.

Lamezia Terme International Airport (SUF)

This is the main international hub for the region, located approximately 45 minutes from the University. It offers daily connections to Rome, Milan, London, Munich, Zurich, and other major European hubs.

Transfer to Rende/University:
  • 🚌 Shuttle Bus: Frequent bus services (e.g., Autolinee Romano or Ferrovie della Calabria) connect the airport directly to the Cosenza Autostazione (Bus Station). From there, local buses connect to Unical.
  • 🚆 Train: Take the shuttle/taxi (5 min) from the airport terminal to Lamezia Terme Centrale train station. From there, take a train to Castiglione Cosentino (direct line, ~35-50 min).
  • 🚖 Taxi/Transfer: Available outside arrivals. Approximate cost: €70-€90.

Destination Station: Castiglione Cosentino

The station serving the University area is Castiglione Cosentino. It is located in Quattromiglia (Rende), about 1.5 km from the main campus entrance.

Many hotels are located within walking distance of this station. The University is connected to this station by local buses.

High-Speed Connections (Frecce)

If traveling from Rome, Milan, or Naples on high-speed trains (Frecciarossa/Italo), you usually need to change at Paola station.

  • Paola Station: The main railway hub on the Tyrrhenian coast.
  • Transfer: From Paola, take a regional train to Castiglione Cosentino (approx. 20 mins) through the tunnel.

The University is located immediately off the A2 Autostrada del Mediterraneo (formerly A3 Salerno-Reggio Calabria).

Exit: Rende - Cosenza Nord

After exiting the toll booth, follow signs for Universita'. The campus entrance is approximately 2 km from the highway exit. Ample parking is available on campus.

Rende is well-connected by long-distance bus operators such as FlixBus and Itabus.

Main Stop: Rende (Marconi) or Cosenza Autostazione

The "Rende (Marconi)" stop is located at the highway exit (Quattromiglia), very close to the Castiglione Cosentino train station and many conference hotels.
