Call for Papers
The smart world is set to enhance everyday things with abilities of sensation, communication, computation and
intelligence so that
many tasks and processes could be simplified, efficient, and enjoyable. It consists of numerous "smart things"
that can be endowed
with different levels/forms of intelligence and be connected together for a network level of intelligence. At
the same time, the
fairness and ethics in utilizing such an intelligence is of extreme importance. Research on ubiquitous and
trustworthy
smart world is an emerging research field covering many interdisciplinary areas that benefits humanity and
will have significant
societal impacts.
The IEEE Smart World Congress (SWC) originated from the 2005 Workshop on Ubiquitous Smart Worlds (USW, Taipei)
and the 2005 Symposium
on Ubiquitous Intelligence and Smart World (UISW, Nagasaki). SWC’s 2026 in Italy at the University of Calabria
aims to provide a high-profile,
leading-edge platform for researchers and engineers to exchange and explore state-of-art advances and
innovations in graceful integrations of Cyber,
Physical and Social Worlds with Ubiquitous Intelligence.
Topics of Interest
The topics include (but are not limited to):
Types of Submissions
The conference welcomes high-quality, original research contributions that advance the scientific and technological foundations of the smart world. Authors are invited to submit their work in one of the following categories:
Full Papers
6 pagesComplete research studies containing significant findings, rigorous methodology, and comprehensive experimental or theoretical results.
Short Papers
4 pagesConcise contributions reporting promising early results, innovative ideas, or ongoing work that is expected to stimulate discussion and further development.
Poster & Demo Papers
2 pagesVisual or interactive presentations showcasing prototypes, systems, applications, or early research results that highlight practical innovations and emerging technologies.
Important: A submission can have at most 2 additional pages with the pages overlength charge, if accepted.
Publication and Indexing
All accepted and presented papers (full, short, and poster/demo) will be considered for the conference proceedings and indexing in major repositories.
IEEE Xplore
Submitted for publication in IEEE Xplore Digital Library.
Major Databases
Indexed in Elsevier, IET, and Scopus.
Note: For a paper to remain eligible for publication, it must be presented in person (unless otherwise specified). At least one author must register for the conference and deliver the presentation.
Special Issue and Extended Versions
A Special Issue in a high-impact, ISI-indexed journal will be organized in conjunction with the conference. Authors of selected outstanding papers will receive an invitation to submit an extended version of their work.
Information about the journal partner and submission deadlines will be announced soon.
Call for Proposals of Special Sessions or Workshops
The IEEE SWC 2026 and its co-located conferences invite proposals for Special Sessions and Workshops that complement the main conference program. We seek innovative and focused sessions on emerging topics related to smart world technologies and their applications.
Proposal Guidelines
Please include the following information in your proposal:
- Title: Full title of the proposed special session or workshop
- Organizers: Names, affiliations, and contact information of the organizers
- Type: Specify if it's a Special Session or Workshop
- Duration: The number of hours or Half-day or Full-day
- Abstract: A brief description of the session/workshop (100-200 words)
- Topics: List of key topics to be covered
Submission Process
Submit your proposal as a Word file to the special session/workshop chair by Feb 15, 2026 and the decision on Acceptance will be notified by Feb 28, 2026.
IEEE SWC 2026 Special Sessions and Workshops Information and Responsibilities
- Session/Workshop organizers are responsible for inviting 5 to 6 prospective authors (academics, researchers and professionals known in the field for their acknowledged work) to submit paper contributions. The invited authors should be active in the research topics addressed in the session.
- Session/Workshop organizers are also responsible for organizing and carrying out the peer-review process either on an extended abstract or the full paper (it is up to them).
- It is also the responsibility of the Session/Workshop organizers to set up any intermediate deadlines with the authors in a way that would ensure that the camera-ready version of all session papers reach the Conference Organizers on time for inclusion in the Conference Proceedings.
